Offline POS: what happens to your shop when the internet drops?

· 4 min read · SHENZEE Tech

A web-based POS is convenient because it works on any device. But a web page cannot load without internet. If your connection drops during a busy hour, you cannot sell.

How an offline app works

An offline app is installed on the counter PC. It keeps a copy of your products, prices and customers on the computer. When the internet is gone, it keeps selling from that copy and saves every sale on the PC.

What happens when the connection returns

The app uploads the saved sales and changes, in the order they happened, each exactly once. Your online reports then include them. Nothing is typed twice.

What to check before you rely on it

  • Can it print receipts and save a PDF copy offline?
  • Can you add products and record purchases and expenses offline?
  • Does it upload safely, without duplicates, if the connection drops in the middle?
  • How does it handle an unpaid subscription? It should follow the same rules as the online system.

Nexsora's Windows app, included in the Business and Enterprise plans, is built this way.
