Pharmacy billing software in Sri Lanka: what to look for

· 5 min read · SHENZEE Tech

A pharmacy sells hundreds of small items, many with similar names and different prices per batch. Billing software for a pharmacy has to be fast at the counter and careful with stock.

Fast search and barcode scanning

Medicines come with printed barcodes. A good system lets you scan the code already on the pack, and when you add a new product you can scan its barcode instead of typing it. Search by name should also work, because not every item has a code.

Batch-wise costing

Prices change between supplier deliveries. FIFO costing takes each sale from the oldest batch and uses that batch's cost, so your profit per sale reflects what you really paid.

Low-stock alerts

Set a minimum quantity for each product and see what to reorder before you run out. Stock counts let you compare the shelf with the system and fix differences.

Credit customers

Regular customers often buy on credit. Look for customer dues, payment reminders and credit limits, so you always know who owes what.

Receipts and records

  • Print on an 80mm receipt roll or A4.
  • Keep every bill as a PDF.
  • Reports by day, branch and product.

Always follow the rules of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority for the records you must keep. Billing software helps with sales and stock records but does not replace your legal duties.
